LUBBOCK, Texas (PRESS RELEASE) — Here is a press release from South Plains College:

South Plains College Lubbock Center will offer a Patient Care Technician/Assistant course to train individuals to work in the healthcare setting. Student teaching methods will include classroom training, simulation work experience, and clinical laboratory.

Students enrolling in the PCT course must enroll or have already completed:

  • HPRS 1001: Medical Terminology
  • HPRS 1006: Introduction to the Health Profession
  • ECRD 1011: Electrocardiography (ECG) (Mondays and Wednesdays starting January 24) PLAB 1023: Phlebotomy (Mondays and Wednesdays starting January 24)
  • NURA 1001 and 1060: CNA Classroom Instructions (Tuesdays and Thursdays starting January 25)
  • Clinics (Saturday, time to be determined)

Classes will be held from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. at the SPC Lubbock Center, 3907 Ave. Q. The cost is $345 for PCT; $345 for HPRS1001; $445 for HPRS 1006; $500 for the electrocardiogram; $565 for PLAB; and $500 for CNA. Funding sources are available to help students.

Students will complete the 96 hours of in-class and online instruction. They will prepare for the NHA Certified Patient Care Technician/Assistant exam. By completing the 60 hours in the classroom, clinical laboratory, and online, students will prepare for the NHA Phlebotomy certification exam. By completing the 60 hours of classroom and clinical laboratory instruction, students will prepare for the NHA EKG certification exam. By completing the 60 hours of classroom and 40 hours of clinical coursework, each student will be required to pass the Texas State Certified Nurse Aide Competency Examination with Prometrics. Students will submit their own test requests and fees directly to Prometrics after course completion.

CPR certification is required and is not included in the tuition fee. Other supplies not included in the tuition and fees are a blood pressure cuff and a stethoscope. A maximum of 10 participants will be accepted for this course.

Students will not be permitted to register or pay for this course unless all requirements are met. Criminal background checks will be performed on all students. No refunds will be given for

criminal background check. Students must be at least 18 years old. Students can register at the SPC Lubbock Center.

Students must provide proof of immunization for MMR – series of 2 injections or TITLE; Current negative Tuberculosis test (no more than 1 year before first day of class; Tetanus (no more than 10 years before first day of class; Hepatitis B Series or TITLE (HEP B – only title needed if student cannot can’t find intake record or is in mid-streak) Varicella or proof of varicella, flu vaccine is required for all students enrolled between October 1 and March 31. Students must provide proper identification with matching names on all documents and not expire before the end of the course valid driver’s license or identity card and a social security card.
