CLINICAL ASSISTANT: EQUINE MEDICINE (THREE YEAR CONTRACTUAL COMMITMENT)
LEVEL 10 POSITIONS

The Companion Animal Clinical Studies Department has the following opening for a qualified veterinarian who wishes to specialize in equine veterinary medicine by earning an MmedVet degree. Please refer to the relevant directory for program information.

Equine medicine (1x post @ January 1, 2022)

RESPONSIBILITIES:

The successful candidate will actively participate in the following areas:

  • An advanced training program in equine medicine with a view to obtaining the MMedVet (Med) diploma;
  • Clinical / practical training of undergraduate equine medicine students;
  • Ministerial research and publications;
  • Clinical service at Onderstepoort University Veterinary Hospital and the surrounding community, including 24 hour service; and
  • Community engagement activities.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • BVSc or BVMCh diploma or equivalent veterinary professional qualification;
  • Registration as a veterinarian with the SAVC or eligibility for registration within one year of appointment; and
  • Two years general veterinary clinical experience completed at the start of the appointment Where one year internship. The CCS year can be considered as a year of clinical experience provided that evidence, such as a case diary indicating sufficient exposure to equine cases, can be provided to this effect.

REQUIRED SKILLS (SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND BEHAVIORAL ATTRIBUTES):

  • Commitment to pursue academic development;
  • Knowledge of the subject: equine medicine;
  • Appropriate language and communication skills;
  • Good interpersonal skills; and
  • Good computer skills (Windows, MS Office, internet).

ADDED ADVANTAGES AND PREFERENCES:

  • Two years of experience in equine medicine;
  • Teaching experience;
  • Exposure to research in a relevant area of ​​equine medicine; and
  • Publications in the fields of veterinary science or equine medicine and / or related field.

The overall compensation for this contractual position will be proportional to the incumbent’s appointment level, as determined by the UP policy guidelines.
